Benefits of the arrival of snow in the vineyards
The vineyard is beautiful throughout the year in its different stages, but seeing it dyed in white is something impressive. The snowstorm has left a unique landscape, but at Bodegas El Inicio not only do we enjoy the sight of walking through the field full of vines, but we are also very happy if we think about the multiple benefits that the snow leaves us. In the hydric aspect and in the sanitary aspect, since diseases are prevented with it.
Starting with the water, the fact that the snow melts little by little allows the soil to hydrate, achieving a more effective and efficient use. To this is added that it is a precipitation that reaches the field slowly, without soil erosion or damage to the plant, something that does not happen with other forms of water arrival, as occurs with heavy rains or hail.
Regarding health, it must be taken into account that in winter times due to the presence of snow, the vineyard is in a phase of vegetative stop, so that both fungi and insects are protecting themselves from low temperatures in the crust. Some parasites die and are thus eliminated from the plant. And while temperatures rise, it is possible to give the vines a rest and for them to continue their cycle in a healthier way.
To this must be added one more benefit, the help of the snow to create a healing layer in some points that have been opened during pruning, preventing the entry of diseases.
