At Bodegas el Inicio we continue to bet on caring for the environment
The release of the new vintage of Pluma Blanca Verdejo wine from the Rueda Designation of Origin comes with another step for Bodegas el Inicio in its commitment to sustainability. An objective set by the managers of the winery for a long time that was reflected in this DO when, in March 2021, the arrival of Pluma Blanca 2020 made this white wine organic. Now the next advance in the interest of caring for the environment has been to eliminate the plastic cap, replacing it with a natural cork.
“With this novelty, we continue with our commitment to the environment, replacing the synthetic stopper that we had been using at Pluma Blanca Ecológico with a more natural and sustainable cork,” explains the CEO of Bodegas el Inicio, Alfonso Velasco.
The quality of the wine is not affected by this change, but our planet and the mark we leave on it are. All this thanks to a material that, in addition to being natural, has unique innate characteristics. It is resistant and light, thermal and acoustic insulating, impermeable to liquids, elastic and compressible, fire retardant and hypoallergenic. But above all, cork is a 100% natural, renewable and biodegradable material.
The use of cork is sustainable, because it is obtained from the bark of the cork oak, a tree that is not touched again for a decade, the time necessary for it to regenerate again. It is biodegradable and, therefore, it breaks down easily by the action of biological agents, such as the sun, water or bacteria, something that plastic and its derivatives cannot achieve.
Organoleptic characteristics
Already in the tasting, Pluma Blanca Ecológico 2021 from the DO Rueda presents in the visual phase a high layer for a Verdejo, with shades of attractive yellow-green tones.
In the olfactory phase, a very high aromatic intensity is appreciated, for a powerful, intense, elegant and very pleasant wine on the nose. Typical aromas of the Verdejo variety appear, but with complex nuances of stone fruits (peach, apricot, Paraguayan) and nuances of white flowers (jasmine).
In the mouth, the balance of a wine that is pleasant and creamy stands out, with a high body that manages to eliminate the final bitterness present in other Verdejos thanks to organic viticulture.
