Pluma Blanca, the Verdejo from the DO Rueda that manages to be fully organic
With the 2020 vintage, the wine from the Rueda Denomination of Origin, Pluma Blanca, that we make at Bodegas El Inicio, becomes organic, meeting the strict requirements for this. There have been several years in which the vineyard has been preparing and caring for it. It has been made to achieve a wine that does not require artificial aromas, but produced 100% by the plant naturally. The result now comes with a Verdejo of new strains from selected old strains, a production of just 50,000 bottles.
What are the qualities of an organic wine?
Differentiating an organic wine from another that is not requires a commitment to the sustainability of natural products when carrying out the procedures in the vineyard. With the exclusive use of animal or vegetable fertilizers, without burning of stubble that minimizes the bacterial flora of the plant and with a harvest that is done late. This way it is achieved that the grapes have the highest concentration of antioxidant substances that, in short, are beneficial for our health. In this way, it is possible to live in harmony with nature and to value traditional culture.
In the same way, it is important that the raw material that comes from the field does not have compounds that break the harmony of the grapes. The wine that arrives at our table must not contain any type of sulfites or genetically produced compounds. Nor have sulfur dioxide been removed by chemical processes, nor electrical processes to achieve stabilization.
How is Pluma Blanca Ecological?
To discover what this organic Verdejo is like, we invite you to watch this video where our winemaker, Ángel Luis Margüello, explains it to you.
Already in the tasting, Pluma Blanca Ecológico 2020 presents in the phase a high layer for a Verdejo, with shades of attractive yellow-green tones.
In the olfactory phase, a very high aromatic intensity is appreciated, for a powerful, intense, elegant and very pleasant wine on the nose. Typical aromas of the Verdejo variety appear, but with complex stone fruit nuances (peach, apricot, Paraguayan) and white flower nuances (jasmine).
On the palate, the balance of a wine that is pleasant and creamy stands out, with a high body that manages to eliminate the final bitterness present in other Verdejos thanks to organic viticulture.
